Joseph W. Mollica


Mr. Mollica was first appointed to the New Hampshire Liquor Commission (NHLC) by Governor John Lynch in January of 2010 and has served as Chairman since 2011. During his tenure, Chairman Mollica has boosted net sales by 30% and transformed the state’s NH Liquor & Wine Outlet stores into a nationally recognized brand through a combination of extensive store renovations and relocations, investments in customer service training, warehousing and information technology, and by strengthening relationships with brokers, suppliers and licensees.

Under Chairman Mollica’s leadership, sales reached an all-time high of $678.4 million in Fiscal Year 2016, an increase of $36.3 million or 5.65% over the previous year. Total net liquor profits reached $159 million, which is used to fund programs including education, health and social services, transportation, natural resource protection and addiction treatment and prevention programs.

NHLC has received numerous accolades during Chairman Mollica’s tenure, including being named by the Washington Post as the “Best State in the Country for Wine Drinkers.” The Interstate 95 Hampton NH Liquor & Wine Outlet was recently profiled in The New York Times Fashion & Style section and heralded as “a popular vacation stop.” NHLC’s exclusive barrel-buy program and vast selection of hard to find spirits has been applauded by nationally renowned whiskey bloggers who have ranked New Hampshire the “Third best state for buying bourbon (” and “One of the best places in the country to find rare spirits (Serious Eats).” In 2015, NHLC’s first-of-its-kind web-ordering app received a Control State Best Practices Award by StateWays Magazine. In 2014, the New Hampshire Winery Association recognized Chairman Mollica has “retailer of the year” for his support of New Hampshire’s emerging winemaking industry which experienced a 76% increase in sales since he assumed leadership of NHLC.

Prior to his appointment, Chairman Mollica’s background included extensive restaurant ownership experience, successful partnerships with state and local government agencies, and over 25 years as a self-employed entrepreneur. With his “hands on” approach as a business owner, Chairman Mollica has received numerous awards for his restaurants, including being named as Top 25 Ski Town Bars in North America by Ski Magazine, and being rated “91” Phantastic Dining by Boston’s Phantom Gourmet. Chairman Mollica holds a Bachelor of Science in Culinary Arts and Food Service Management from Johnson & Wales University, Providence, RI. Chairman Mollica, his wife Allison, and two sons reside in East Concord, NH.
