Purpose of Practice
This training initiative educates persons providing security services to licensed establishments.
Description of Practice
The seminar provides certified training in the areas of alcohol laws and regulations for licensees, safety issues to include fire and health, control & restraint techniques, first aid, drug recognition, use of force, and interaction with area law enforcement; just to name a few.
Success or Improvements
This certified course of study has greatly improved the professionalism of the security personnel employed by the nightclub establishments in the Burlington area. Increased professionalism directly translates to decreased liability as well as lowering the number of reports of manhandling plus it improves the quality of the interaction with the licensee’s patrons. It partners the local police department with professional national educators from within our Liquor Control and from outside the State.
Evaluation of the Practice
This program is currently being used in our largest metropolitan area and is undergoing constant revisions and updating. Since security/bouncer training is now mandated by our liquor laws, a curriculum has been developed to specifically address this need, which is quite different from the training needs of the bartenders and serving staff.
