The state of Ohio is retiring 700 liquor brands including Patron XO Dark coffee liqueur, Pinnacle gin, Admiral Nelson spiced rum and just about any type of flavored vodka imaginable in order to free up shelf space for new stock.

In the new year, you’ll be paying less tax to tipple.  The new tax law passed by Congress and signed by President Donald Trump will cut excise taxes on beer, wine and distilled spirits over the next two years. It’s especially generous for craft brewers, cutting the federal excise tax from $7 to $3.50 per barrel.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Sales at Utah state liquor stores broke an all-time record on the Friday before Christmas.

The state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control says there were more than $3.78 million in sales on Dec. 22 at the state's 45 state liquor stores.

The Joint Interim Revenue Committee approved a bill proposing a 3 percent increase in the maximum state profit on sales of wine and spirits earlier this month. The proposal will now be introduced when the Legislature meets Feb. 12 and needs a two-thirds approval to officially go to voting.

The city’s first microdistillery with a tasting room will open next month.  Dead Reckoning Distillery, a small-batch rum maker, plans to offer its first tours and tastings Jan. 12.

Local liquor stores in the state could be faced with a reduction in sales this New Year’s Eve due to the festivities falling on Sunday, which will prohibit the purchase of liquor.
