Federal Court Strikes Down Virginia’s “Habitual Drunkard” Law That Criminalized Owning Alcohol

UPDATE: Virginia announced on Friday afternoon that it will not appeal the decision. The article has been updated to include new quotes from the Attorney General and the Legal Aid Justice Center.

Sunday Morning Alcohol Sales Approved By Hoover Council

HOOVER, AL — Anyone for mimosas? The Hoover City Council Monday night passed the Sunday Brunch Ordinance, which will allow restaurants to sell alcohol starting at 10 a.m. on Sundays.

North Carolina Distillery and ABC Modernization Bill Signed into Law

On July 29, 2019, Governor Cooper signed SB290 into law.  The bill makes major changes to North Carolina alcohol laws, including allowing distilleries to sell unlimited bottles directly from the distillery and to sell mixed drinks at the distillery.

Convenience and grocery stores selling beer upend Lancaster County market for liquor licenses

The Rutter's in Leola was the first convenience store in Lancaster County to sell beer. It debuted the sales in October 2016. In 2011, after more than 30 years in business, Joe Gargano decided to start selling beer from his small pizza shop at the center of East Petersburg.

Study task force aims to legalize direct wine shipment in Alabama

A person can't legally ship wine directly to their house in Alabama. However, a task force to study the direct shipment of wine met Tuesday with the goal to find a way to legalize it.

Alcohol Beverage Services Partners to Help Raise $10,000

Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS), in partnership with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, will kick off a fundraising effort today at Montgomery County ABS retail stores to raise $10,000 during the month of August for the Warrior Canine Connection (WCC) organization.

Law Allows Local Governments to Skip Alabama Legislature

A new law is in effect as of Thursday that allows local governments to skip the state legislature when allowing alcohol to be sold on Sundays.
