Heineken: Rise in legal alcohol purchasing age may exacerbate contraband issue

KUALA LUMPUR: The slated increase in the legal purchasing age (LPA) for alcohol in Malaysia from 18 to 21 years old, effective Dec 1 this year, may worsen the issue of contraband alcoholic products in the country, said Heineken Malaysia Bhd managing director Hans Essaadi.

Sapporo sues government, demands return of tax on Goku Zero

TOKYO — Sapporo Breweries on Tuesday filed a lawsuit with the Tokyo District Court demanding the Japanese government return 11.5 billion yen ($104 million) in liquor tax that the brewery paid for its Goku Zero drink.

UK Leads Europe For Online Booze Sales

The report, from global e-commerce analytics firm Profitero, in conjunction with Nielsen, showed that around 21% of UK consumers had brought alcohol online, behind only China (27%) and Japan (22%).
