People's Alliance pushes for private liquor, cannabis retail system

NEW BRUNSWICK - People's Alliance Leader Kris Austin says the province should abandon the government-owned system of selling liquor and cannabis for one that gets privately owned stores to do the selling.

Plagued by shoplifting, Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries using courts to make offenders pay

Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries is ramping up legal efforts to make chronic shoplifters pay. The Crown corporation, beset in recent months by a rise in shoplifting at Liquor Marts, has started registering criminal compensation judgments against convicted thieves in the Court of Queen's Bench.

In July last year a campaign was launched by alcohol delivery service Jimmy Brings and music streaming monolith Spotify. 'The Songmiler Edition' introduced three specialty wines with the Jimmy Brings x Spotify logo and a QR code.

16 crore Indians consume alcohol, these states being highest consumers: Survey

Around 16 crore Indians in the age group of 10-75 are consumers of alcohol with Chhattisgarh, Tripura, Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh and Goa having the highest prevalence of liquor use.

How Government increased excise duties on alcohol and tobacco

Halifax microbrewery loses court bid to upend province's sales markup

A Halifax microbrewery has taken on the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation over beer markup fees — and lost. The province's Court of Appeal found the NSLC's markup fee on beer sold on Unfiltered Brewing's own premises was a proprietary charge, not an unlawful tax.

There are multiple apps and websites that sell and deliver alcohol including Airtasker, Liquoroo and Jimmy Brings. To use these services all that is required is a credit card and a smart phone.
