    Supreme Court cross-border beer case raises fears of 'race to the bottom'

    If the Supreme Court of Canada upholds the acquittal of a New Brunswick man who was fined after being caught transporting 14 cases of cheap beer and three bottles of liquor home from Quebec, the result will be a "race to the bottom" for provincial standards protecting the public, argues a senior policy analyst for the Canadian Cancer Society.

    South Salt Lake changes its liquor laws to attract breweries, distilleries

    South Salt Lake approved a series of liquor law changes that could attract more breweries, distilleries and wineries and ultimately revitalize certain portions of the city.
    The City Council unanimously approved the changes, 6-0, during its meeting Wednesday.

    Officials eye expanded hours for Sunday alcohol sales

    WILMINGTON, Del. — Officials in Delaware’s largest city are eyeing an ordinance expanding the hours for alcohol sales on Sundays.
    The proposed ordinance would allow liquor stores to sell alcohol on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

    Sunday sales currently are allowed only from noon to 4 p.m.

    Nova Scotia announces marijuana will be sold through NSLC and online

    The provincial government announced Thursday that pot will be sold through certain Nova Scotia Liquor Corp. outlets and online when recreational marijuana is expected to become legal in Canada next year.

    The legal age to use, possess or purchase marijuana will be 19, the legal drinking age in Nova Scotia, Justice Minister Mark Furey said at a news conference.

    The Kerala government lead by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) has decided to raise the legal drinking age from 21 to 23 years.

    The State Cabinet in a meeting on Wednesday decided to introduce a new ordinance raising the minimum age for liquor consumption from 21 to 23.
