    Kombucha warning withdrawn as P.E.I. overhauls 'outdated' liquor laws

    The P.E.I. government has withdrawn a liquor inspector's warning to a Charlottetown restaurant last week. And the province's finance minister says the restaurant, My Plum, My Duck, is free once again to serve a fermented tea, kombucha, produced by a local Island company.

    An industry-backed bill allowing restaurants to serve alcohol in the early morning passed the Kansas House Monday and became one of the first few pieces of legislation the chamber has passed so far this year.

    High-Tech Scanner Helps Vermont Liquor Control Bust Phony IDs

    The Department of Liquor Control has collected more than 800 fake IDs since introducing a new high-tech detection scanner at bars and stores, mostly around the Burlington area.  The department received a grant to purchase 12 of the machines, which include a scanner and a sophisticated software program that matches the phony IDs against information from official state IDs.

    Alcohol Beverage Control Board votes to prevent distilleries from serving mixed drinks

    On Jan. 23, the Alaska Alcohol Beverage Control Board voted 3-1 to approve new regulations prohibiting distilleries from serving and mixing cocktails. These new rules would require distilleries to serve the alcohol separately from the non-alcoholic ingredients, such as orange juice or cream. It would be up to the customer to mix it.

    JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi lawmakers could allow visitors to buy alcohol directly from distilleries, after agreeing to let visitors buy beer at breweries last year.  The House Ways and Means Committee on Thursday approved House Bill 995, sending it to the full House for more debate.
