    Alcohol breath tests for those under 21 would require a warrant, new bill proposes

    LANSING, MI — Police would have to get a warrant to perform a preliminary chemical breath analysis on people younger than 21 under a bill that passed the Senate Judiciary Committee this week.

    Virginia ABC to offer rare Old Rip Van Winkle 25-year-old bourbon through lottery

    Bourbon lovers will get the chance to purchase a once-in-a-lifetime product from one of the nation's most famous distilleries next week on Virginia ABC's website.

    From 9 a.m. on May 10 to 9 a.m. on May 12, customers will be able to enter a lottery for the chance to purchase one of ten bottles of the extremely rare Old Rip Van Winkle 25-year-old bourbon. The entry form can be accessed on the Virginia ABC website, https://www.abc.virginia.gov/products/limited-availability.

    Pennsylvania takes steps to lift Cuban rum embargo

    Pennsylvania — the sixth most populous state in the country — has submitted the initial paperwork to begin the application process, and is now working to provide additional documentation and materials in a bid to lift the 1962 trade embargo.
    Under the Obama administration, ties between the US and Cuba were put on a path to "normalisation", with diplomatic relations restored and some travel restrictions eased.

    New bill keeps medical, recreational pot separate

    Lawmakers are considering a proposal to keep medical marijuana regulation under the Oregon Health Authority through a new cannabis commission.
    Legislators on the Joint Committee on Marijuana Regulation took testimony Tuesday evening on a recently amended version of a bill that initially proposed to merge the state's medical and recreational marijuana programs under the Oregon Liquor Control Commission.

    DABC approves newly required signage for bars, restaurants

    Coming soon to Utah restaurants that serve alcohol: Signs that say they are not bars.
    And coming soon to Utah bars: Signs that say they are not restaurants.
    The state alcohol commission approved the signs Tuesday to comply with a new state law requiring those establishments to clearly tell customers what they are.

    Bill treats texting and driving as 'another form of drunk driving'

    Getting caught texting and driving could hurt a lot more if certain bills pass the Oregon legislature.
    Hermiston municipal judge Thomas Creasing outlined new traffic-related laws being considered by the legislature during a city council work session Monday.
    He said both the Senate and House are considering upping the penalties for a first-time offense to as much as $2,000. Senate Bill 2 as currently written would make texting and driving a misdemeanor that could include jail time for second and third offenses.
