ALEXANDRIA, VA (November 20, 2014)--During October, nine-liter spirits case sales in the control states grew 2.0%, in spite of a tough comp, compared to same period sales last year. Rolling-twelve month volume growth of 1.5% slipped from September’s 1.8%. Alabama, Idaho, Montgomery Count MD, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oregon, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, and West Virginia reported monthly growth rates exceeding their twelve month trends. Control State year-to-date nineliter case volumes are up 2.6% over those reported during 2013.
Control state spirits shelf dollars were up 4.6% during October while trending at 4.0% during the past twelve months. Alabama, Idaho, Montgomery County Maryland, Maine, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia reported growth rates exceeding their twelve month trends. Control State year-to-date shelf dollars are up 4.9%.
Price/Mix for October is 2.6%, the same value reported for September.
During October, Irish Whiskey, with 0.9% share of the control states spirits market, was the fastest growing category with 8.1% reported and a twelve month trend of 9.6%. Vodka, with 35% share, grew during the same periods at 3.3% and 1.4%. Brandy/Cognac, Gin, Tequila, and Vodka grew at rates exceeding their twelve-month trends.
October’s nine-liter wine case sales growth rate was 3.3%. Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Utah, Mississippi, Montgomery County Maryland, and Wyoming reported 2.8%, 5.7%, 4.1%, -2.7%, 4.6%, and 5.3%, respectively. Rolling-twelve month wine volume growth was 2.0%, improving on September’s 1.7%.
