    The Collection: An Alcohol Research Summary

    Alcohol regulation should be guided and supported by the science. NABCA has partnered with the alcohol research experts at the Alcohol Research Group (ARG) to provide its members with a comprehensive overview of the latest scientific evidence on important topics related to alcohol policy. The Collection: An Alcohol Research Summary seeks to help the public 1) identify effective policies to reduce the harm associated with alcohol, 2) evaluate and improve their existing alcohol regulatory systems and 3) determine where more research is needed.

    College Alcohol Intervention Matrix

    The College Alcohol Intervention Matrix (CollegeAIM) was developed by NIAAA with leading college alcohol researchers and staff. CollegeAIM is an easy-to-use and comprehensive tool that is seeks to help institutes of higher education identify effective alcohol interventions both at the individual and environmental levels. CollegeAIM can help schools choose interventions wisely - boosting their chances for success and helping them improve the health and safety of their students.

    NIAAA Brochures and Fact Sheets

    NIAAA has produced brochures and fact sheets in both English and Spanish, to help the public easily share information, backed by the science, on alcohol-related topics, including drinking while pregnant, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, alcohol overdose and seasonal fact sheets.

    Alcohol Related Disease Indicator (ARDI)

    The Alcohol-Related Disease Impact (ARDI) application, is an online tool created through a partnership between CDC and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, to provide national and state estimates of alcohol-related health impacts, including deaths and years of potential life lost (YPLL). These estimates are calculated for 54 acute and chronic causes of death using alcohol-attributable fractions (Estimates the proportion of deaths from various causes that are attributable to alcohol) and are reported by age and sex for 2006-2010.

    County Health Rankings & Roadmaps

    A project of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the County Health Rankings and Roadmaps resource provides state and county health rankings and includes variables related to alcohol under its behavioral health section. The tool also provides a list of evidence-based approaches for communities.

    The National Liquor Law Enforcement Association

    The National Liquor Law Enforcement Association (NLLEA) is a nonprofit, membership association comprised of alcohol regulatory and law enforcement personnel dedicated to the monitoring and enforcement of alcohol laws and regulations. It seeks to improve the standards of alcohol regulatory and law enforcement practices, foster professional development for its members and encourages public recognition of the role and achievements of alcohol regulatory and law enforcement in protecting and promoting public safety. The NLLEA holds conferences providing networking opportunities for its members and stakeholders, conducts trainings and creates toolkits regarding operations and countermeasures for enforcing alcohol laws, and issues reports and guidance documents on current alcohol policy trends and their impact on the enforcement and regulatory field.

    State Alcohol Epidemiologists

    The Alcohol Program is funding full-time alcohol epidemiologists in Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico and Utah, and provides technical assistance to other state-based epidemiologists. The work being done by the alcohol epidemiologists is drawing attention to excessive drinking as a key health risk behavior and supporting the implementation of effective policy and environmental strategies to prevent it. The Navigator has educational materials explaining evidence-based treatment approaches that increase the odds for a successful recovery and a 3-step roadmap with expert guidance to help people find a quality provider. Additionally, NIAAA has created resources to help communities spread the word about the Navigator with images, videos and reach out toolkits for health care professionals and faith leaders.

    NIAAA created a website, Rethinking Drinking to offer valuable, research-based information on drinking patterns and how they may affect a person’s health, providing helpful tips on standard drink sizes and calculators to identify how much alcohol and calories are in a drink and  how much drinking costs a person per week, month or year.
