    Alcohol distributors lose bid to block marijuana

    CARSON CITY (AP) — A Nevada judge denied a request from a group of alcohol distributors to stop recently approved emergency regulations that allow the state to license some retailers to transport marijuana from growers to storefronts.

    Thousands of Substance Use Prevention Advocates Unite at CADCA's Mid-Year Training Institute

    Nearly 2,000 substance abuse prevention and treatment specialists from around the world will convene in Atlanta, July 23 — 27 for CADCA's (Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America) 16th annual Mid-Year Training Institute. The week-long training, held at the Marriott Marquis, will teach participants how to address one of our nation's biggest public health challenges — drug use.

    Parents Need to Step Up to Reduce Teen Drinking

    A new Australian study reveals that more can and should be done to curb the drinking habits of teens. And, parents should lead the way as the parental influence is more powerful than many realize.
    Although teens worldwide are drinking and smoking less, when they do drink, they usually drink more than adults.
    University of Adelaide researchers surveyed more than 2800 Australian students aged 12-17 on their drinking behavior.

    Parents dining with kids limited to 1 alcoholic beverage at restaurant

    A New York restaurant has committed to limiting parents' alcohol intake when they dine with their children and plan to drive home.
    Melissa Gravelle, the general manager at Peddlers Bar & Bistro in Clifton Park, New York, said she fears for the safety of drunken adult drivers and the children who accompany those drivers, and she hopes to prevent unnecessary accidents.

    For Flying Dog Brewery, Crass Jokes Are More Important Than Community

    Flying Dog Brewery has a long history of fighting censorship — in Colorado, where the brewery was born, in Maryland, where it moved in 2008, and in Michigan, where it has fought a long battle with the state over the right to sell its flagship beer, Raging Bitch Belgian IPA. That anti-establishment attitude is no surprise: The brewery was founded in 1994 by Aspen millionaire entrepreneur George Stranahan, a friend and neighbor of famed gonzo journalist and First Amendment crusader Hunter Thompson. And Flying Dog's labels use edgy artwork by Ralph Steadman, who illustrated Thompson's books and hung around with him for years.

    Duke undergrads get wasted more than peers, study shows

    A college student getting hammered on a Friday night isn't exactly breaking news—but a survey suggests that it's happening at Duke more than other schools.
    The survey, conducted by the American College Health Association in Fall 2016, found that 72.2 percent of Duke undergraduates had consumed alcohol within the past month, almost 10 percent higher than the national average.

    At Killingtons Restaurant and Pub in Huntersville, they've adjusted their hours since the "brunch bill" that allows Sunday morning alcohol sales passed.
    At Block Bistro, they're seeing an additional, earlier brunch rush at 10 a.m. Sundays.

    Alcohol minimum pricing appeal begins at Supreme Court

    The UK's highest court has begun hearing the latest appeal against minimum pricing for alcohol.
    The Scotch Whisky Association's case against the measure is being assessed by the Supreme Court in London.
    The policy was approved by MSPs at Holyrood in 2012, but has been tied up in a succession of court challenges amid claims it breaches European law.
