National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), an agency under the U.S. Department of Transportation, collects nationally representative crash data from several sources, such as the Fatality Analysis Report System (FARS) and the General Estimates System (GES), in addition to research studies on specific issues, such as the National Roadside Survey of Alcohol and Drug Use by Drivers through their behavioral research efforts. NHTSA uses these data to analyze trends and develop countermeasures to mitigate crashes to save lives.
